Berlin-based DJ, producer and label owner Oliver Deutschmann announces his debut album, ‘Out of the Dark‘. Released on Vidab Records on February 24, at Panorama Bar, Berlin, he is now undertaking a world tour to promote the album.

ODeutschmannOliver runs Vidab with label partner Stephan Hill, together curating an impressive catalogue of quality, raw and analog-infused house and techno. He also created the Falkplatz label as a further outlet for his energetic A&R tendencies.

Firmly established in the underground, Deutschmann has stood behind his unique brand of 4/4 beats for more than a decade; a permanent resident at Panorama Bar for over 4 years with his dubby, pulsing house vibes, old school drums, intense peaks and driving modern dramatics.

Developing a strong signature sound, Oliver translates real emotion and atmosphere into his productions, with bold, crisp and powerful drums, resonant, textural synthlines and a stylish talent for keeping things locked down to hypnotizing effect.

Oliver’s album tour will reach Hong Kong on Friday 12 April 2013 at Bassment Bar. Support from DJs Wendy Wenn and Miko Van Chong, as well as visuals by Casey Anderson of Humdrum Hong Kong. Presented by Deeper Sounds HK.

Dirt Crew Interview: Break 3000 [English /

Tell us a bit about yourself and Dirt Crew.

Break3000PeterG

Break 3000 (Peter Gijselaers)

I started DJing in a small bar in my hometown Maastricht around 1991-1992. I also produced my first music together with a friend around that time. My first record is from 1992 as “Amazone”. After that I started doing music as “Break 3000” – mostly trip hop, electro and drum n bass (that’s where the name came from).
So the first Break 3000 things were released in 1999-2000. After doing a lot of electro it slowly changed into more old school house. In 2003 I started Dirt Crew together with James Flavour from Berlin. Since than I have been building up the label, nowadays I only concentrate on the label and my artist.

Your record label is almost ten years old now. How is everything going for Dirt Crew Recordings?

It’s going really well! We always kept true to our own sound and now that’s paying off with the current return of good deep house, we manage to get over the very boring minimal and loopy tech house years pretty well and I am happy that people are more into the true house sound again. So with new artists like Detroit Swindle, Urulu & Steve Huerta, Ben La Desh and soon Waze & Odyssey we will have a killer year in 2013. Furthermore I am planning the first real Tigerskin album and the debut album by Detroit Swindle.

Have you been to Hong Kong or Asia before? Did your Dirt Crew partner, James Flavour, mention anything about DJing in Hong Kong last year?

I have never been to Hong Kong and I’m really looking forward to visit! I have been playing in Asia before, last time I was in Shanghai which was a great experience too! I have also been to Japan twice on tour. It is great to discover a new side of Asia and especially Hong Kong! James Flavour also had a great time, so I am excited!

You vs. James Flavour, who would win in a pillow fight?

Me of course… haha…

Wild Renate

Wild Renate, Berlin

Do you notice any new developments with the music and DJs in Berlin?

Like I said, finally some people are returning to the true house sound. We had some really difficult years in Berlin with only shitty minimal stuff going on, but now you have great clubs that play great music. My favorite club is Wilde Renate, that place is just the perfect club!

What was the first record you bought?

I am not sure what was the first one, but I think it was “The House of God” by D.H.S., or “Total Confusion” by A Homeboy, A Hippie and A Funky Dread, back in 1990. That’s for the dance music. As far as my very first record, that was in the 80’s and must have been something by Duran Duran or Beastie Boys… or Madonna?? haha…

RRdancelikenobodyswatching

How about the most recent record you bought?

As I don’t buy vinyl anymore, I just can tell you what is my favorite record right now. That’s the latest Roberto Rodriguez on Freerange Records. [listen below]

You’re in the middle of a long DJ set when suddenly you need to go to the toilet. What long song will you play to keep everyone dancing until you come back?

Mike Dunn – “Phreaky MF”. That’s 10 minutes and will keep people busy for sure! 😉

Don’t miss Dirt Crew at Midnight & Co. on March 16!

Dirt Crew

由 Electro 慢慢演變成 old school house.

Dirt Crew Recordings?

Haha

D.H.S. – “The House of God” or A Homeboy or A Hippie and A Funky Dread – “Total Confusion” 1990.
Duran Duran or Beastie boys… or Madonna 有關 ?? haha..
Roberto Rodriguez – “Dance Like Nobody’s Watching” (Freerange Records).

Mike Dunn – “Phreaky MF” – 10 mins,

Airdrop Records Soundcloud

The next installment of Humdrum Hong Kong‘s free late-night party of cutting edge deep house and techno at Bassment features Berlin‘s Paulo, co-founder of Airdrop Records and A&R Manager of the legendary Tresor-Berlin label.

In the miraculous world of Airdrop Records co-founder Paulo, where DJing, restless label work and partying all morph into one, everything is much more than what it seems. Only here, bad road accidents result in amazing music output and other even more wondrous creations that make this planet a better place to live on.

Growing up in France, Paulo was way too young to get into clubs when he was starting to feel the electronic pulses of a restless generation ready to change the course of things. After having had the pleasure to select and compile jazz and blues records with his late father, he got infected with the electronic virus a couple years later when his older brother returned from the States with anything from early Tribal America records to Gemini’s 1997In Neutral” EP.

Crossing the ocean at the age of 18, he bumped into the crazy ass duo Soul Clap and his friend Henry within the first weeks of being there. Before anybody knew what was going on, they were all throwing parties together every Tuesday which were aptly named Airdrop as they were dropping serious electronic sounds onto some clueless students, lifting them into higher spheres of (un-)consciousness.

But while Paulo’s head floats in the air and his body rotates behind the turntables, his feet are steadily rooted in reality, enabling his expert musical knowledge to unfold beyond the short-lived nocturnal moments. His experience as a label-head got some prestigious labels to employ him, getting Paulo to manage the logistics of the !K7 Label Group and currently give a new artistic direction to Tresor Records, two of Berlin’s seminal labels.

FREE ENTRY for some underground sounds from Berlin this Friday, March 1. Get ready for an awesome night!

Supported by Humdrum Hong Kong resident DJs Casey Anderson & Ocean Lam.
